Restyling a Few Favorite Pieces... =)

Hello!

And welcome to the final post in my May Style Challenge! I wanted to use this month to save money and prove to myself (and hopefully others as well!) that I could be creative and use the clothes I already own to create a number of different ensembles.

To be honest it was not a completely noble challenge. While yes, I wanted to take on this challenge to help, inspire, and save money. I also put money aside each week so that I could have a small stash to use for a small shopping spree I treat myself to each year on my birthday -which is in two weeks! It is the one time I really splurge.

But even still I am still proud of myself for completing this challenge! And I hope it was helpful for any/everyone who read! In that spirit today I decided I wanted to restyle some of my favorite pieces. I decided on the beach-y printed, asymmetrical hem skirt and the New York and Company wrap vest.

The skirt -from Target, the Mossimo brand- is one of my all time favorite skirts. It has a very flirty feel and unique design, the print is perfect for summer, however I have found it a little difficult to style. So, true to my rule, I wanted to find three ways to wear it. I think I have figured them out. The first was paired with a crop top, and this is my second pairing. I like how the wrap vest -pictured tied in the back and front- adds an addition/unexpected shape to the ensemble.

Added bonus, I wound up creating two different looks by the way I tied the vest. My sister said she liked it tied in the front better, and I liked it a lot as well, but it photographed better tied in the back.

I accessorized lightly with Versona jewelry and my highly adored Mossimo heels. =)

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed the May Style Challenge! And enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Casual Friday:: Detailed Tunic, Jeans, and Strappy Heels...

Happy Friday!

Just wanted to give a quick hello to everyone and hope you are having a great day! I am so far. I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend with friends, wine, and maybe even the pool! =)

But for today I decided to keep things with casual with a detailed Ella Moss tunic, GAP jeans and strappy, green, Fioni heels. Believe it or not I have had the tunic for a few years now. It is one of my go-to summer tops. It is flattering, flirty, and the details are stunning and unique. It gives the tunic a more casual feel.

The Fioni heels are another item that has inhabited my closet for a while now and I'm saddened to say that I have not paid them as much attention as they deserve. I cannot explain why exactly. I love the way they look, the design is so unique and perfect for summer, and yet, alas they have stayed tucked away.

Which is why I decided to take them out for this post. I decided that they were a perfect fit for this ensemble. Strappy, whimsical, and they do not compete with the tunic.

And of course, for additional accents I accessorized lightly with Versona pieces; two rings and the light gray bag. =)

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great weekend! Tune in Sunday for the last post of the May Style Challenge! =)

Happy Wednesday!

I am very much looking forward to summer! And in that spirit I decided to go with a boho chic look!

But this ensemble appeals to me on several levels. I love the colors. The bold, blush colors in the skirt in contrast with the lacey crop top adds a dramatic element. The vest brings it down to a more casual level while still adding a posh vibe to the ensemble. I love how all of the fabrics, patterns, and colors all work together to create a boho chic ensemble that is still polished and sophisticated.

I added additional touches with a SohiaandKate statement necklace, several  bracelets, and a Versona crossbody bag for additional pops of color and statement pieces.

Thank you so much for reading and I appreciate the support! =)

Happy Memorial Day!

I hope you are having a wonderful, long weekend! I am! =) I feel really good lately. Really excited! I feel like something really great is right around the corner -it usually is! I can't explain it but I love the feeling. It is inspiring! =)

This ensemble only fueled that feeling. It was a fun and determined ensemble. The GAP striped shirt is an attention grabbing piece and I added to the New York and Company wrap vest -though I tied it in the back- for an additional flare. And of course, true to my nature, I added a pop of color with my Versona clutch.

All of the pieces work together to create a polished and sophisticated look. =)

Thanks again for reading and eat some delicious food today!

Also, lets all be grateful for all of the men and women who put their lives on the line for us ever day to allow us this immense freedom that we enjoy. Thank you from the depths of my heart. Your bravery is inspiring.

Happy Sunday!

Just wanted to give a quick hello to everyone! Today has been a busy day for me but a good one -so far!

Today's ensemble is a textured skirt and a sheer Converse top. It is one of my favorite outfits to wear. The skirt is so fun to me! The uneven lines and the lacey details create a very unique look. And the top adds a nice contrast.

Hope you are having a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and doing something fun! =) Thanks for reading!

Delicate Details, Plaid, and Leopard Prints...

Happy Wednesday!

I really like this particular ensemble. I feel there are a few possibilities as far as ways to wear this. I initially wore my strappy Mossimo heels with this and carried the over-sized, grey Versona clutch. But I felt as though they were obvious choices (though I added a few pictures of that pairing) and decided I wanted to go for a more complex look.

I swear these X-appeal leopard print heels are not new, I just have not styled them much in the past. I do love the way the leopard print looks with the plaid. The Sioni top is another piece I have had for a while now. I love the design of it. The one-sided ruffle and the intricate details of the ruffle work together to create a unique piece.

Since I paired bolder pieces together, I decided to go light on the accessorizing  by carrying a black Jessica McClintock clutch and delicate feathered earrings -which are a little hard to see in the pictures.

However, there are other a lot of other possibilities for these pieces. With a summery, white top with the shorts would look great. A boyfriend tee with a denim jacket would work as well. I paired the top with boyfriend jeans and yellow heels.

As I was saying this is an ensemble with endless possibilities! Thanks for reading! =)

Leopard Prints and Statement Pieces...

Happy Monday to all!

To kick the week off I opted for an ensemble that had a boho chic nature to it. It has been pretty warm lately so I was aiming for something chic but cool and breezy at the same time.

The sheer, Collective Concepts, wrap top is a piece I have had for a long time. I cannot seem to give it up. Something about the print and the way it fits. For me, it is a perfect summer piece. It in itself is a statement piece. By that I mean it is the eye-catching piece. It is what makes the ensemble pop. Otherwise it is just a black camisole and shorts.

I paired it with a Versona belt, that I feel ties the ensemble together perfectly. And, true to my nature, I added a pop of accent color with a bright red, Versona clutch. The strappy, Mossimo sandals are quickly becoming a favorite piece in my closet -if you have not already noticed ;).

Before I close for today, my style tips are quite simple:
1. If in doubt, don't buy it! This rule has helped me time after time. When I am out shopping, if there is a piece  that I am unsure of or have doubts about, I don't buy it. If you aren't sure of the fit of the item or how you really like the way it looks on you, rule of thumb just don't buy it. If you still want it in a few days and if it is still there, then maybe buy it. But don't just buy impulsively.

2ndly, when you do decide to take the plunge and make a purchase, ask about the store's return policies. Sometimes that is what helps me decide ultimately on whether or not to buy something. Because sometimes it is hard to really get a feel for a piece without trying it with other ensembles. So return policies are good things to know. GAP allows you sixty days with tags to return items whereas Versona allows you ninety. Forever21 is twenty-one days but store credit only.

I hope this helps you out! Thanks for reading! =)

Mixing Textures and Prints...

Happy Sunday!

I have had a productive weekend so far! Today I was playing with textures and prints. I have had these teal, faux snakeskin printed jeggings for awhile now but I sometimes have trouble pairing them.

I fell in love the way this textured New York and Company tie vest looks with the jeggings. They are synergist pieces; they both work together to enhance the other. Together they create a classy, polished, chic look, perfect for a night out with friends or a date night. I even wore it to a church service.

The white Versona clutch and strappy Mossimo heels were added enhancements.

Before I close, I wanted to share two more of my personal styling tips.
1. Get other people's opinions if you are not sure. I am not always sure about certain looks I come up with but I get opinions from other people. For this post, I got input from my sister and my friend Jen.

2. Rule of Three. This is a rule I created for myself. If I buy something, especially if I am unsure of it, I try to find at least three different ways to style it. I use this rule to clean out my closet periodically too. If I can't find at least three ways to wear a certain piece, its time to part ways with it. This helps me out on several different levels. It helps me spend less on clothing (well.... sometimes =).  It helps keep my closet from being overwhelmed with pieces that I do not even wear much. And it gives me ideas for future, go-to ensembles that I can recreate easily, thus removing the stress of having to find something first thing in the morning or when I am running late and cannot seem to find anything to wear.

I hope this helps a little! Thanks for reading and have a great rest of the weekend! =)

Getting Creative: A New Way to Wear a Scarf...

5/13/2015

Happy Wednesday!

I woke up in a fiercely creative mood today!

For today's post I decided to put that creativity to work. Sometimes I find that I overthink my wardrobe too much. For example, earlier this week, I was raiding my closet trying to create a unique look by layering or wearing something I have not worn in a long time, or pairing contrasting pieces together. But nothing seemed quite right.

Then I was in a rush one afternoon and needed something easy, cool, and comfortable. This Mossimo scarf caught my eye and I was thinking how I could wear it without being unbearably hot. That's when I decided to try wearing it as a vest. I like the way it looks! The tribal print of the scarf and the use of contrasting colors gives it a summery feel. I opted for a small black belt that would not compete with the print in the scarf.

Not only is it an easy, comfortable outfit for girls who are constantly on the move, it can be switched up easily. A different printed scarf could create a completely different look!

All of this is basically to let you know that for the rest of my May Style Challenge posts, I will share some of my styling tips that have proven true for me over the years. I have two styling tips for today;

1. Small, simple changes can create different looks easily. A change of shoes or bags, adding a statement piece, changing from shorts or pants, even adding a hat or scarf can create a variety of different looks! It may take some experimenting and you may not like everything you come up with but when you find that perfect ensemble, it will all be worth it. =)

2. Keep it simple and accessorize. I cannot take full credit for this or any credit really. I heard this from one of my fashion heroes, the beautiful Kate Hudson. She was asked in an interview about her style and she responded by saying she keeps the clothing simple and accessorizes heavily. I have found this to be a great and fun way to style.

Thanks for reading -I know it is a long post this time- and have a great day! =)

Structured Crop Jacket, Relaxed Boyfriend Shorts....

Hello!

To all of you Moms out there, Happy Mother's Day! =)

I can't wait to go see my mama tonight! Today was a busy day for me.

For today's post, it was a bit of a rainy Sunday here in the QC, so I opted for darker, muted colors and a relaxed, simple vibe. I chose Gap boyfriend denim shorts and a basic grey tee shirt.

I let the structured, forest green, structured jacket tie the look together and the oversized Versona clutch (restyled several times) be the stand out piece.

The color blocking Versona wedges also add a fun element to an laid back ensemble.

Thanks for reading! Have a great day! =)
