Fashion Inspo: SAG Awards Style!

Hello and Happy Wednesday!

Today we are back with some Fashion Inspo coming from the SAG awards earlier this week! Everyone really crushed the fashion at the SAG awards as far as I can tell! So, I just picked a few that I really liked to focus on for today's post.

First up is Cate Blanchette in Georgio Armani, and HOLY SMOKE SHOW batman! She is a knock-out in this dress! Let's be honest, she is a knockout anyway, but this sequined, lacey gown looks really elegant on her! Plus, her hair looks fantastic, and I love that she kept the rest of the look simple. She did not over accessorize and her make up is not over done. Definitely a favorite of mine!
Picture

Michelle Yeoh made a bold choice with this textured Schiaparelli strapless gown! But it paid off! The gold fringe down the center is a fantastic focal point. And with her slender frame, she was able to pull it off easily. Again, I like how she kept everything else simple as to not compete with the dress. Definitely a fun, fierce look!

I have to give it to the guys -they really crushed it this year! I saw several men taking more risks with fashion and looking good! Austin Butler being one of them. His burgundy, Gucci suit is perfectly tailored and crisp! He looks very handsome!

Jessica Chastain looked radiant in this hot pink, Zuhair Murad gown. There is something about Jessica Chastain's look in general that reminds me of old school, Hollywood glamour and I feel like this look really leans into that. The off-the-shoulder bodice and the full-bodied gown, plus the red lip! It just feels so glamourous! And the color was a fun choice!
Picture
Neicy Nash has been KILLING it this awards season! Not only for her role in Dahmer but also her fashion choices! This Vera Wang gown is such a dream! I love everything about it! I love the color on her and the romantic, ethereal, draping of the skirt part of it. Bright colors were everywhere at the SAG Awards, this particular color was also worn by Angela Basset and Viola Davis.

Tyler James Williams in Thrash Bespoke. Tyler is a guy I may have to devote a whole post to! I remember him from way back when he was on The Walking Dead (RIP Noah!) And here he is now with such a unique fashion sense! And this is not the first time I have been impressed with his style!

He wore a wide-legged look to the Golden Globes last month, which I loved! I feel like he is in his own lane when it comes to fashion and I am here for it!

And the final two I want to talk about: first is Eddie Redmayne in Saint Laurent. This is a very cutting edge look in the menswear, in my opinion. The sweeping bow, high-waisted trouser, and (although you cannot see it) his shoes have a bit of a point to them. Very classy!

And of course, Zendaya in Valentino! You guys did not really think I'd make a whole post about fashion at an awards show and not include Zendaya did you!? This gown is stunning! The skirt of roses! The blush color, the fit! It is so feminine and romantic; I just cannot get enough of it!

Thank you, guys, so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed this post!

I will see you Friday! =)

Checkered Cheer: Summer Dress and Bucket Bag...

Hello and Happy Monday!

So, I have big news! I AM GOING TO SEE BEYONCE!! (Cue the gif of Kermit the Frog freaking out!) I can hardly believe it! I had looked for tickets the week before and they were pretty pricey then, so I had kind of resolved not to go. I decided that if it was meant to happen then it would work out, I was not going to force it. Cut to Friday evening. I got a text saying I was eligible for a fan presale. So, I decided I'd check it out. I am so glad I did! The tickets were considerably cheaper! Without a second thought or hesitation I scooped them up!

I'm so happy -of course- because its Beyonce! But also, I feel like my anxiety has held me back for so long, but I was able to take my life back and now I'm living for experiences and moments big and small. And this summer is shaping up to be a big one!

On to today's look! It took me a few days to get this look shot! Three days and one trip to the camera ER later, I FINALLY got some good shots in!

This sundress from Vestique is so adorable! From the gingham pattern to the neutral color, to the asymmetrical neckline, to the side cutout -what is not to love?

It has a romantic air about it. A perfect day date dress!

Picture

I had a bag in mind to style with the dress. It was a rouched, beige bag that would have matched perfectly. But then I came across this pleated bucket bag from Target and I instantly changed my mind!

This was my pop of color! Plus, the additional texture added some depth to the look. Double plus, it held my flowers perfectly! ;)

Picture
One last thing! Can we get some love for this location!? It is so gorgeous! I shot here one other time recently and it is the most scenic place! I think I actually gushed about it in that post too! But seriously! There are so many great areas to shoot in this shopping center (Rea Farms for anyone interested!)

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed it! And I hope your week is off to a great start!

See you Wednesday!

Hello and Happy Friday!

How are you?

I know I say this a lot but I am so excited to share this post with you! The look itself is a great outfit for this time of year. The beginning of spring, when it is still cool in the morning and then comfortable in the afternoons.

That is how it was when I took these pictures! When I set out to this spot, I already knew from a prior shoot that it was a cool location, but then I got there and it was even better than I imagined! The trees were all in bloom and the sky was so crisp and blue! It was beautiful! It had me feeling so happy!

And then everywhere I looked I was met with inspiration! All of the brick buildings, the light poles, the brick sidewalks, the fountain! There were so many places for the perfect pictures!
Picture

The look features one of my all time favorite piece -the pale blue, pleated, midi skirt! You guys all probably know by now that my love for this skirt runs deep! It is so femininene, and beautiful!

I styled it with a chunky knit, in a grey color which pairs nicely with the skirt. The differing textures also makes for a fun combo.

I feel like I look a lot taller in this outfit, I think it is the pleats in the skirt! (One more reason to love it!)

Picture

One of the pictures I envisioned was up on the ledge of the fountain. I really wanted the picture to be me walking on the ledge of the fountain.

However, I also had a fear of falling into the fountain! And I only had 10 seconds to get in place. At first, I really did not know if I was going to be able to make it happen. But after a few tries and a little encouragement from a friend, I finally got it!

Let me just tell you guys, my legs were WEAK afterwards! xD

Picture
I was pretty impressed with how it came out!

The whole day just gave me more motivation to continue to push myself out of my comfort zone and try different things. And to keep trying until I get it right! This whole shoot probably took a little over an hour, but I really wanted to bring my visions to life, and I am very happy with what I came up with!

Thank you guys so much for reading! Have a great weekend! =)

Out and About: At The Fashion Reimagined Exhibit!

Hello! And Happy Wednesday!

Buckle in guys, this post is a long one! Long but fun!

My good friend, and designer, Sarah, and I set out a few Sundays ago to the Mint Museum Uptown location for the Fashion Reimagined exhibit! And it did not disappoint! It was a look at fashion styles and designs throughout history, and then from there separated into three rooms; minimalism, colors and patterns (my personal favorite!), and the body reimagined.

And I could not have asked for a better museum date than Sarah! Our enthusiasm and excitement were sky high as we meandered through the exhibit, taking in all of the designs.

While I was fascinated by all of the period pieces, styling choices/techniques used, and the art in the fashion, Sarah chatted to me excitedly about the more intricate details of the displays. She was taken by the different seams and stitching used, the different tailoring in some of the menswear pieces, and many of the design details used in the pieces.

I loved all of the tidbits she shared with me! It was fun to hear and see the exhibit with someone who was equally excited, but also seeing it through a designer's eyes gave me a whole new appreciation for the designs and all of the work that goes into them!

Picture
Picture

As I mentioned earlier, my favorite part of the exhibit was the patterns and colors part. It was just full of beautiful clothing and vibrant colors. There was even a piece by Anna Sui there! That got us both excited!

This was one of my absolute favorite looks! It has all of the drama, and I am here for it!

Down below is another angle of the same look.

To the left is a design from the minimalism part of the exhibit.

Picture

Down below is another one of my favorite looks! This is what I mean when I say I like to see the art in fashion. I realize this is not a practical dress to wear, but it is still so beautiful, unique, and quite literally a work of art! It was designed by Iris van Herpen in 2020 and is called the "Labyrinthine" dress from the "Sensory Seas" collection. And the materials used in creating it are really spectacular! It was created using laser-cut, heat-bonded, hand-stitched, and machine-embroidered silk and glass organza.

Something tells me I will be looking more into Iris van Herpen -maybe for a future blog post!
Picture
The bustle on the gold dress as well as the train is just jaw dropping! I remember eagerly grabbing Sarah's arm and pointing it out to her as we began walking into that room (she is also a big lover of period pieces!) We were both fan-girling over it!

The body reimagined was about the different ways that fashion has been used to accentuate the female body. Corsets were used to give the tiny waist and to give lift to women's breasts. And the bustles were designed to draw the eye to the -ahem- behind!

There were other more subtle design tricks that were specific to meet the person wearing it individual needs. For example, there was a black dress that had a sort of cut out in the back, we think as a form of ventilation. On another dress, Sarah showed me where it looked as though a patch had been sewn in under the armpit. Sarah explained that it was to give the person wearing it, better range of motion.

The design above on the right is named 'A swimsuit to wear while looking for Hellbender." It was designed by Shae Bishop and I am thoroughly intrigued by this! I looked it up and could not figure out what hellbenders are, why you would want to look for them, or why this is a good suit to wear while looking for them. However, Sarah and I were both intrigued by it!

Thanks so much for reading! I really appreciate it and I hope you enjoyed this!

The exhibit will be on display until July 2, 2023 if you're interested!

Sarah, thank you for a wonderful afternoon! It was a joy -even though the Uber ride home was awful! xD

Moto Monday: Black Theme and Moto Jacket...

Good Morning! And Happy Monday!

I am starting this week off with a comfortable, edgy look! I do not know why, but I am feeling really bad ass lately and I felt like reflecting that attitude in my styling.

The tee shirt is from Target from their Black History Month collection. It is their 9th annual Black History Month collection which is designed by Black founders/creators. The shirt itself celebrates black women's hair. Which, as I found out later, is a centerpiece in black culture. More specifically it is symbol of identity and creative expression. But it goes even more in depth than that. In ancient African civilizations hair symbolized someone's social status, spirituality, family background, and marital status. It is so fascinating, I may have to devote a whole post to it in the future!
Picture

For today's look, I used the tee shirt as the focal point to style around and honestly, the addition of the black pieces adds such edge!

I also added a new bag to my collection!

This small, ruched shoulder bag!

I picked up this beauty at the grand opening of Vestique boutique in Fort Mill a few weeks ago.

It is such a beautiful bag! Small but mighty! It is great for a date night or a girls night out!

I've already been having a great time styling it!

My shooting location for today's spot was a fun one also! And it happened by chance! I was meeting up with a friend earlier this week and stumbled across this and right away knew I wanted to come back to shoot!

The columns combined with the brick side walk are so picturesque, it is like walking around in your own little town!

Thank you so much for reading!

I hope you have a wonderful week ahead and I see you on Wednesday!

Late Afternoon: Bright Colors and a Pleated Skirt...

Hello Everyone! And TGIF!

This has been the quickest week for me! I can hardly believe it is Friday already to be honest with you. I got a lot done this week and I am hoping to get more done this weekend. One of the nice things about this week is how beautiful it has been lately!

I got some shooting done early on in the week -this look being one of look I shot- and weather had me in such a great mood! Cool in the morning but comfortable and breezy in the afternoons!

Perfect!

Plus, there were several trees in bloom (which you will see in a later post!)
Picture
Picture
This particular look I shot later in the day. You maybe able to tell based on the lighting in certain pictures.

Sometimes, that drives me crazy but I think it worked out all right for this look/setting. There is still plenty of light to illuminate. And the shadows that are there do not hinder the colors in the look very much.

Since we got a little taste of spring this week, I decided to play with a more spring-like outfit. The floral body suit and the pleated skirt went together perfectly and I opted for some additional color with strappy, neon heels, and a green bag.

Picture
It is a little wild to think that Monday I posted about layering in a peacoat and sweater and today I'm posting a spring look! I guess this is Charlotte weather for you though!

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoy it! And I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Stay safe and I'll see you Monday! =)

Out and About: At Superfood Cafe!

Picture
Hello everyone! Welcome back to another Out and About post!

This week (well technically last weekend) I went to one of my favorite places, Superfood Cafe, to meet with one of the nicest people, Toni! She and her husband own Superfood Cafe and I got to spend the morning chatting with her about their store, their misson, project ideas, and -of course- their food!

Toni told me that their main motivation for Superfood Cafe is because it is located in a shopping center where fast food restaurants are abundant, and she wanted to give people a healthier option. While we were chatting, a couple came in. Toni got up and greeted them warmly and spoke with them for a bit, I happened to overhear the lady she was speaking to say almost word-for-word exactly what Toni had just said to me -about the store being a healthy option in a sea of unhealthy options.
Picture
Picture

And healthy it most definitely is! Superfood Cafe hosts an impressive menu full of different smoothies, various bowls like pitaya, acai, and super greens, and even hot oatmeal bowls!

Toni explained that they do not add any additional sugar or artificial sweeteners in their products. That is something many of their competitors cannot claim. All of the fruits are delivered fresh daily, and everything is made right there in front of you.

They also offer vegan friendly, nut free options, as well as gluten free granola.

I have tried both the Kiwi Bee Friends and the Kale Yeah bowls and both are very tasty! The Kiwi Bee Friends is what I tried Saturday with Toni, it is a pitaya bowl which includes: pitaya (of course), granola, pineapple, kiwi, bee pollen (who knew!?), and honey.

I also really love their avocado toast -Avolove- and I am planning on trying their other avocado toast -Avacodo Envy next time I go! I will keep you guys posted!

Picture
Picture
In addition to everything on the menu, Toni told me about two other popular items, a collogen smoothie, and these protein bites. The protein bites are heavenly! I got some that Saturday, and they are so delicious! They look like little balls of chocolate, and they consist of chocolate, peanut butter, granola, cinnamon, and the whey protein. Toni was telling me that they can be a great snack option, or an afternoon pick-me-up, or even to bring with you to serve at a gathering.

The collogen smoothie I did not try, and it is more of a specialty item, but Toni says that her husband gets it often and swears by it! And that is one thing that truly stands out to me. There are plenty of places that will just push different products merely for profit, but as owners of Superfood Cafe, Toni and her husband really believe it and take pride in their products. You can see it and even feel it as soon as you walk in. It is in the pleasant layout of the store, it is in the cheerful way that the staff members greet you, and it is in the way that the items are prepared carefully and packaged neatly.
Picture
Picture
I feel as though I could go on and on about Superfoods Cafe, but I would rather you see for yourself! Head on over to Indian Trail to check them out. If you follow them on Instagram (@superfoodcafe_indiantrail) you can stay up to date on special discounts, product details, events, and promotions!

And stay tuned here as well, because Toni and I may have a few things in store for you later on! So go on, go get some healthy foods and I will see you on Friday! =)

Thanks for reading! And special thanks to Toni and Superfood Cafe for this opportunity!

Warm and Cozy: Peacoat and Maroon Leggings...

Hey all!

Welcome back! And Happy Monday!

I hope you had a great Super Bowl weekend! I did! But then it got cold again on me! So, I had to find a warm and comfy look for today's post.
Picture
Picture
That is where this look comes into play.

I had been looking for a nice, beige peacoat for a while, so when I saw this one from LOFT on sale, I hurried to scoop it up!

It has a more mature, minimalistic feel to it. Very chic. And very easy to style.

For today, I layered a LOFT pullover sweater underneath the coat.

For a little pop of color, I added maroon-colored leggings, and for comfort faux Uggs!

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you have a great day and a great week ahead!

Early Spring: Color-blocking and Metallic Coin Belt...

Picture
Hello my friends! Happy Friday!

Who else has been enjoying the past three days?! The weather has been so beautiful I almost forgot that it is still early February and winter is not yet over!

It has felt like such a perfect spring day!

I took full advantage of the beautiful weather on Wednesday, getting several looks shot. Including today's look!
Picture
Picture
Picture

Every piece in today's look is a bit on the older side. The corduroy, color block dress is a one that I got from Nastygal.com a few years ago.

I remember being a little disappointed when I first got it because I felt like it fit too loosely. But I could not find it in me to return it or get rid of it. I was so drawn to it!

I cannot quite tell you if it was the casual fit/style of the dress, the simple, yet solid color blocking, or both!

Picture

Then I was getting ready to head uptown to a museum exhibit with a good friend of mine and I felt like I should dress a little nicer.

That was when this dress caught my eye once again and I paired it with these gorgeous boots from New York and Company.

The idea for a belt hit me, and I remembered my mom had this metallic, coin belt that I have always really liked. With her permission I styled it with this dress and really loved the results! It went together perfectly!

It also made for a nice transitional look. The boots and the material of the dress were warming, but the loose fit of the dress help with ventilation. Both at the exhibit and shooting on Wednesday, I felt very comfortable. Not too hot or too cold!

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed, and I wish you all a wonderful, Super bowl weekend!

Have fun and stay safe! =)

Out and About: At Velocity Denim!

Hello everyone and welcome back!

Today I have a fun post to share with you!

Last Thursday, I went out to Velocity Denim to meet up with a friend and fellow creator, Rob Brown.

If you have followed my blog for a while, you'll know that my friendship with Rob (Reasons) goes back a few years now. We have collaborated several times and we were able to meet up Thursday to talk about future plans!
Picture

We met up at Velocity Denim where Rob works, which is located in the Charlotte Premium Outlets. I was able to look around the store a bit and it really is a vibe!

The store itself has a very neat, clean-cut aesthetic about it, neatly displaying several racks and shelves worth of sweatshirts, jeans, graphic tee shirts, and hats. The music playing in the background really sets the tone for a bit of shopping. Not to mention the staff there is always friendly and engaging.

But while it is a denim boutique by day, it takes on a new life at night! Sometimes that is! It is part of Rob's plans to bring more light to the store as well as get creative people in the community together and involved.

Velocity Denim has already hosted a meet and greet with Jalen Santoy (@jalensantoy on Instagram) a singer, rapper, and songwriter from Charlotte, back in early January.

Rob plans to continue to host more events like that from the store!

Picture

Another event he is planning for is called Velocity Vibes, in which a music video countdown would be hosted live from the store.

Rob and I conversed about other ideas of different events that we could come up with and promote for Velocity Denim, including style sessions, sip and shops, and styling through the use of games -you're going to have to come partake to see what I mean on that one! ;)

This was just a piece of our hour long conversation! I felt like we came up with some solid ideas and I left feeling so inspired and ready to get to work.

Picture
That is the thing about Rob, his energy is infectious! He is always full of ideas and all of his ideas include bringing people together and highlighting one another's talents. This was the first time I had seen Rob in a while, so I was a bit nervous/excited to see what he was up to. From the moment we sat down, it was that same ambition and drive. In all honesty, it can be overwhelming at times! Which is why I'm only focusing on the Velocity Denim part of our conversation for this post. In a second part, I will tell you all about The Honey Comb Experience and the great things coming up with that.

But for now, I hope you are feeling just as inspired as I am! I hope you stay tuned and come out to see what we do with Velocity Denim! Thank you so much for reading! And special thanks to Rob Brown and Velocity Denim for the opportunity to collaborate!

You can follow Velocity Denim on Instagram at @velocitydenimsouth for more info on upcoming events and sales. You can also follow Rob at @reasonsbrown!
