Take a Leap:: Dramatic Maxi Skirt and Mixing Patterns....

Hello and Happy Leap Day! =)

So, all day all I could think about was this episode of Frasier where it is a leap day and Frasier takes it to heart and encourages everyone to take a leap and do something awesome. Of course, all of the leaps that people take per his request, go awry, but I'm hoping that this is not the case with the leap I chose to take today.

If you have read my blog for any length of time, you have probably noticed my love for the black, white, and a pop-of-red color scheme. There is something so classic about it! I have incorporated this color scheme many, many times! This is a new favorite look of mine!

This geometric-printed, Versona, maxi skirt is dynamic! The pattern, the fit, the flare -I feel like a movie star wearing it! I personally loved the mixing of patterns in the crop top. Its an optical illusion for the eyes! Something a little unexpected, yet I feel like it works. The anchor here, is the Chaus NY blazer! The red pop of color has this blending mechanism, it blends the two patterns in a sense.

I hope you enjoy this look and this day! Much like in Frasier, the weather today has been GORGEOUS! I am so happy! I hope you also took a leap today of some sort! Feel free to tell me if you did! =) I'll be sure to reply to you!

Thanks for reading!

XOXO

A quick hello!

What do you think of the new do?! I got a bob!

Personally... I am mixed. I like it I think -I think I can do a lot with it and it will grow back quick- and yet I specifically asked for a LONG bob (not sure if this can be counted as a LONG bob) BUT I do trust my stylist, Linda. She was sweet and supportive and  held my hand (figuratively and sometimes literally) the whole time -I'm only kind of kidding! (I should mention I have had a TERRIBLE hair cut before, thus my apprehensiveness for anything new or drastically different.) Again, I do want to say that Linda was and is great! My bad haircut experience from before was my fault alone. Sort of the same this time, although I do think I'll be happy with it in a day or two, you know, once I get used to it.

On to the fashion! I LOVE this look! It combines bright colors, playful designs, and laid back denim! What more can you ask for?! ;) Funny story; I wore this out the other night, running errands and as I got home it had been/still was raining at the time. These blush pink heels that used to kill me but now they are ridiculously comfy, were my shoes of choice. I jumped out of my car and bee-lined for the stairs to my apartment. One foot hit a mud puddle unfortunately. And while I noticed I had stepped in it immediately, what I did not count on was that it would stick. Yes. I ended up stepping out of my shoe, which threw me off, and down I went. =(

Thankfully it wasn't terribly embarrassing! I did not face plant, I just stumbled lol. The shoes had to be cleaned significantly. BUT we live and learn right!?

I hope you get the laugh out of this that my sister did! (She came outside for a better view.) She laughed and I laughed too. Life's too short not to laugh at the silly things right!?

God bless! XOXO

Hello all!

Just wanted to say a quick hello! I hope you guys are enjoying this weekend! Its been a busy one for me, but it has been nice.

This is one of my new favorite outfits! Its just perfect! Actually all three pieces (minus the boots and bag) are new from my shopping spree in January. I am so happy with this dress, which I found at Forever 21. Its simple in design but it fits like a dream! Its very form fitting but the material is very sturdy and forgiving. It almost like it was meant to enhance your shape. I also really love the stripes! The neutral-ness of the colors make it extremely versatile.

The khaki vest serves two purposes here. First (and foremost) it adds and additional layer. With this weather constantly changing its hard to dress sometimes. This weekend, for example, temps have been in the upper 60's, but it is windy. Layers certainly help combat fluctuating temperatures and unpredictable weather! Secondly it acts as an anchor. It really enhances the stripes of the dress without competing with them.

Closet Essentials: My Ten Must Have Pieces....

1. Jeans!
Nothing beats a pair of well-fitting jeans! They come in a bazillion different cuts and styles (flared, skinny, boot-cut, petite, tall, etc) for every body type. They are extremely versatile, easily dressed up or dressed down, and easily styled (especially when you take into account the many different prints and colors out there!) These are three of my favorite pair of jeans. The distressed girlfriend jean, is one of my all time favorites! It is a variation of the boyfriend jean, just a bit more fitted. The different colored jeans add their own unique charm to different outfits. The olive color has a relaxed, yet put-together vibe. While the white is so chic and elegant! I'm in the market for other colored jeans, in particular; maroon/fuchsia and light blue!

2. Blazers!
Blazers are great! Not only do they add a level of professionalism to an outfit, but they also are great for styling. They dress up just about every outfit. They can be worn with jeans, dresses, skirts, shorts, rompers/jumpsuits, anything really! Plus they are great for layering! These are three of my favorite blazers -on the right is my Chaus NY blazer, which makes frequent appearances on here! ;)

3. Basic T-Shirt
T-shirts are great pieces for every girl to have! Soft and chic, they are great for layering! They are simple pieces but they have a soft allure. I fell in love with the way these tees in particular drape over my frame. They are easy for when you are on the go. Just throw on a blazer or add a necklace, pair with shorts for hot summer days or with jeans for a date night. Either way you get an easy, effortless look!

4. Denim Jacket
Denim jackets will always have a spot in my heart. They are a piece that has been reinvented over the years.  They are so relaxed and unfussy. Light weight for that transition from summer to fall or winter to spring. Imagine it with a summer dress or with those olive green pants from earlier or with a pair of shorts -the denim jacket adds a bit of rustic character to every look!

5. Pencil Skirts
I love pencil skirts! Talk about a chic piece! Perfect for the work! Perfect for date nights! Extremely versatile and fun to style! These are three of my favorites! The navy GAP skirt is simple but imagine it with a crisp white button down?! The textured, rose skirt could also work with a button down or a silk blouse, even a crop top! And the black and white striped skirt adds drama!

6. Chunky Sweaters
Chunky sweaters are another piece that have stood the test of time. This year in particular they have been in full swing! And why not? They are warm, flattering, stylish, and come in all shapes, sizes, and patterns. For an effortless look, pair them with leggings and boots! =)

7. Printed Bag
If you have followed my blog any length of time, you may have noticed I have a love of prints. Leopard print in particular! Prints are interesting! Between mixing them or allowing them to stand on their own or using them to enhance your outfit, the possibilities for styling are endless!

8. Comfy Heels
Do I need to say more? This is the most obvious of course! Great heels are only great if they are stylish AND comfy! =)

9. Statement Necklaces
Statement necklaces really got their moment this year. I love them! The drama, the character, the elegance that they bring to outfits is unique. I personally have found it a fun challenge to layer them into an even greater statement piece!

10. Printed Scarves
Scarves in general are a great way to style and combat cold weather. Prints can vastly enhance an ensemble. They can bring character and charm or diversity to a look.

Crisp and Clean: White Jeans and Loft Peacoat...

Hello and Happy Friday!

How about this stunning photo!? Look at those gorgeous buildings! We shot in uptown Charlotte today, and there is such an energy that is hard to describe.

I headed downtown with two other video bloggers, thank you so much my friends Anjelika and Lyz! We had a great time and got some great shots!

I love the contrast of the white against the dark colors of the peacoat in this look. Its rebelling against the fashion rule about not wearing white after Labor day. I've noticed, this season in particular, that is a rule that has not been followed as strictly as it was at one time.

The constantly evolving rules are one of the many great things about fashion -it gives you the opportunity to try something different! Something bold! =)

Thanks for reading!

Have a great weekend! =)

Hello all! And Happy Wednesday!

This is a fun, laid back look that could be perfect for a Valentine's day lunch or dinner, or even for work! The skirt is actually a lovely Versona piece. Actually I met a cool friend, Cassie, who works at Versona, and has been so nice to me! (Actually everyone there is really nice!) But she has pointed out a few pieces that are amazing -including this skirt!- which I loved! I LOVE the scalloped hem of the skirt, it adds  character!

I enjoy pairing pastels and darker colors together, something about the contrast is appealing to me! Its laid back, yet still chic! And of course the red Versona bag for a little extra contrast.

Thank you for reading! And if you are in the Charlotte area check out the Arboretum Versona! =)

Playing with Silhouettes and Shades of Gray...

Hello!

Just a quick post for today! I restyled the lovely gray, asymmetrical hem dress with a LOFT turtle neck sweater. There is something I really enjoy about the pairing of the two pieces. The loose fit of the sweater over the dress, creates a unique silhouette. The patterned clutch (Versona) adds a lovely contrast!

The darker hues are appropriate and make me feel warm and cozy which especially perfect since temps have dropped this week.

Stay warm my friends and thank you so much for reading! =)

Drama Pieces:: Asymmetrical Hem Dress, Knee-High Boots...

Hello all!

I am every excited for today's post! I cannot tell you how much I LOVE this look! This grey, turtleneck dress, from newchic.com, is arguably my favorite new piece! The simplicity of the color and the fabric make styling make it really easy and really fun to style. The fit and asymmetrical hem of the dress gives a sexy, chic feel.

I styled it two different ways for this post. The first is a simple look. I wanted the dress to be the main focus so I just threw a peacoat on over it. The second look is a bit more complex and honestly my favorite. I restyled my beloved trench vest (Forever 21). I think the dress has potential to be a little risqué, which is not necessarily a bad thing in the appropriate environment. But the trench vest makes it more appropriate to wear out and about, it gives it a more polished, city-girl look.

This dress is from www.newchic.com and you can find this dress here.

I recently went on my semi annual shopping spree, I can't wait to share that with you! I have a lot to share; new pieces, new ideas, new styling techniques and shopping tips! Stay tuned... =)
