Blue Dreams, Big Accent Pieces...

Hey all! Welcome back and Happy Monday!

Today I am playing with two fun styling techniques: first, a tried-and-true technique, monochromatic styling, and second, styling unique accessories!
Picture
Picture
Too be fair, this is not a completely monochromatic look. The lace top is a little break in the blue, of course, but everything else is different shades of blue. This is a technique that is fun to me. By using different shades of the same hue, it draws intrigue to the look! In fact, in Paris, the fashion week has been going on and monochromatic looks are HUGE on the runway there!

It also allows for you to play with different textures and fabrics.

The second styling trick is accessorizing, but instead of just your basic necklaces, bracelets, and hang bags, how about an oversized flower pin!?

I have gotten very into flower pins! I have two that I use pretty regularly and a third one on the way. This one is large and has become one of my favorite accessories! It adds an unexpected flair to the look. It is big enough to draw interest but not so big as to be distracting or tacky.

I had a busy weekend! And did not get much sleep last night, so I am going to end this post here! Thank you so much for reading! Please feel free to let me know how you feel about flower pins! Or if you have a go-to accessory that you love, I'd love to hear about it!

See you guys on Wednesday! Have a great week!

French Twist: Bubble Dress, Tights, and a Beret!

Happy Friday!

I am SO excited to share this look with you all! This look was a happy accident! A really odd, happy accident!

It actually began back in the summer; I was looking for a white bubble dress to go with a jersey I had bought. I finally found what I was looking for on Amazon and ordered it. It said it would not arrive for a week or so, so I was surprised when it showed up sooner than expected. I was even more surprised when it black.

On my Amazon account it showed that the white dress was still on expected to arrive at a future date, so I was super confused! Where did this dress come from? Did I accidently order two? Is the white one still coming? Should I keep this one just in case it was sent instead of the white one?

Well, long story short, it turned out that they sent me the black one instead of the white. I never figured out why. It could have very well been user error. I guess Amazon was lagging when it said the white one was still on the way. It did update eventually.

I never went back and got a white dress. I just kept the black -obv!  And I am so glad I did!

That story was the first reason why this look was a happy accident!

The second reason is that this year for Fashion Week, I really wanted to push myself to put outfits together that challenged me. In the past I have just worn a nice dress and while I liked what I wore, not much creativity went into it. This year I really wanted to create LOOKS. I spent a good bit of time putting looks together!

This one was one that I just tried on a whim. It began with my layering the striped shirt underneath the black dress. It looked decent! Better than I expected, but it was not particularly interesting. After several trial and error with different shoes and stockings combos, I decided I wanted to go for colorful stockings -just to see what it would look like.

I LOVED it!

After that the rest of the look seemed to fall into place. I added the belt to cinch the waist a bit, the beret was a perfect fit with the tights. I was going to carry my red Karl Lagerfeld bag, but after a bit of reflection, I decided the black/silver bag was a bit chicer with this look.

For Fashion Week, I didn't wear the blazer. It was just too hot. But I do think the blazer added a nice touch!

I was so pleased with how it turned out! I was so proud of it! And now I want more than anything to plan a trip to Paris to wear this number! =D

Thank you for reading! Have a great weekend ahead and please stay safe out there!

Tweed, Lace, and a Bit of Layering...

Hello and Happy Monday!

Today's look is kind of a play=off of one of my favorite looks from this year's fashion week. I actually had this idea first but just barely. I knew I wanted to layer a turtleneck under one of my bubble dresses. (To be fair this is not actually a bubble dress, but it is pretty similar to the black one I have in design EXCEPT for the bubble hem.)

I loved how it came out! It is a great way to wear a summer dress into the fall!
Picture
The tweed blazer adds a nice touch! It is the perfect mix of femininity and boss bitch -which you guys know I love both of these themes!

I was sharing with a friend of mine that I saw a meme that said, 'we are in the time of year where you wear a sweater in the morning and regret it later.' That is the truth! By early afternoon you will be sweating bullets! This look will definitely keep me warm in the mornings, but I would definitely ditch the blazer in the afternoon! I still maybe warm, because the lace turtleneck is long sleeved buuuuuut we are in the fall season damnit! I am wearing long sleeves!

I did opt for color footwear! I considered booties or boots but knew that may really be pushing it! (I get cranky when I'm hot lol). The loafers also have a more effortlessly chic look.

I also wore these sparkly, nude-colored stockings with this look! They are a bit hard to see in the pictures, but if you look closely, you can see them. I have some in black as well, and really wanted to indulge in a nude-colored pair as well. I wore them to the Fashion Week Kick Off party as well and they were a hit!

I got so many compliments on them! I was thrilled and flattered!

It was actually my first time wearing them out! When I got them last year, it was towards the end of winter, and I did not get a chance to wear them out and about.

Thank you so much for reading! I am so happy to share this styling journey with you!

Have a great week!

Sparkles and Shine: Sequined Skirt and Pleather Coat...

Hello and Happy Friday!

Just a quick post for today because I'm in the middle of fashion week and also the work week (I tend to work weekends, so Wednesday through Sunday is my Monday through Friday). All that to say, I'm tired af! Lol!

But it is a good tired! I wouldn't trade it for anything! =D

I LOVE, LOVE this look!

Generally speaking, I love a solid midi-skirt. I think it's a chic length and this one especially excites be because of the subtle sequins that add a bit of shine AND the subtle lace trim at the bottom! It instantly glams up any look!

I decided to go for the opposite of what one might expect when styling this look. I know there will come a time when I style it with strappy, gold heels, but today my orange adidas called my name! I love the unexpected sporty look and of course the pop of color!

And we cannot end this post without talking about this gorgeous pleather coat! I found it on Amazon and while it may still be a little warm to wear it out on a regular basis, I just had to style it for this particular post!

Sweater Weather: Sweater Dress with Jeans...

Happy Monday everyone!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I did! I had a rare Saturday off, and I spent it at a brunch festival! That is actually going to be Wednesday's post, so I won't get into that today, but safe to say it was a really fun time!

I love this time of year so much and so I am soaking it all in as best I can! I love fashion week -this week here in Charlotte!- I love the cooler temps! I love Halloween is right around the corner! It is just a wonderful time of year!
Picture

I especially love the fashion and styling around this time of year. This look is one of my favorites this season! This sweater is actually a sweater dress! If you leave it buttoned all the way down. It looks really cute with boots! But I decided I wanted to try and wear it as a sweater.

I think this gives a very sophisticated look while still fun and interesting. I love all of the colors involved in this look. It stays in the blue/purple color family for the most part, with silver accents.

I also had some fun shooting these pictures! I tried a few different poses! It occurs to me from time to time that I am a very awkward poser! Lol! I have like two or three go-to poses and I just use them on repeat! So, for no particular reason, I have been kind of studying others' poses and tried to recreate them. Some work, some did not, and some I was just too shy to do! Lol. perhaps I will continue to try them out though and maybe they won't be so nerve wracking! xD

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed!

Stay safe this week! See you on Wednesday!

Fun Fit Friday: Mixing Prints and a Pop of Neon...

Happy Friday everyone!

I have been living vicariously through IG NYFW posts this week! It has been so fun to watch and I am just patiently -or not so patiently rather- waiting for my turn to go! That is one of my goals for this blog and journey, and I feel like it is closer to happening all the time!

BUT in the meantime, next week is Charlotte Fashion Week! Which is arguably just as fun! I am really looking forward to it! But it means it is going to be a busy ass weekend and week! Trying to figure out what I am going to wear, create some content before, during, and afterwards and getting to see old friends and meet some new ones in the process!

Today's look is a fun look that I enjoyed styling very much! I actually may wear this to an event on Saturday. It is a brunch festival, unrelated to fashion week. But it sounds like it is going to be a good time!

I love this eclectic look that features a few of my favorite styling techniques: mixing prints, and a pop of color!

The tie as a scarf is an idea I picked up from a content creator on IG, Chealseaasoflate. I had never really thought of using a tie as anything other than a tie. But she has a video or tiktok that styles ties different ways. this being one of them.

I really liked how it looked, so I tried it out myself and whaddaya know? I love it!

The jacket completes the look. There are a few brighter colored patches that tie in well with the mini bag. The other patches really emphasize the overall eclectic look of the fit.

I was so giddy when I was taking these pictures, I got several compliments on the jacket! It made my day! =D

Thank you so much for reading and have a great weekend ahead!

Stay safe!

Bonjour From Lala Land: Pops of Red and Crop Tee...

Bonjour all!

Today's look is giving Paris-esque vibes and I am here for it!

It also marks my first purchase from the shop Dressed in Lala. It is an online and in person store which has my heart right now! The pieces it carries are full of color, textures, prints -you name it! It is all very fun and interesting. And the brand itself encourages wearing clothing that speaks to you!

I'm about to do a video reviewing a few different online sites I have tried out and give my opinions on them. so, I won't get into too much detail about it just yet. But it is definitely a shop I will be shopping with in the future!
Picture
Picture
Since I was just trying out the site, I did not get much for my first purchase. I saw this cute, cropped tee though and could not resist! I love the message 'stay in your magic' and the charm-like pictures on the tee. Right away I thought of this styling.

I have always loved styling paperbag shorts and crop tops -especially fitted crop tops- together because I find it to be a flattering look. I knew I wanted some funky stockings. I had envisioned ones similar to this but with stripes just going straight down the leg, but I could not find any and this pair was pretty close. (Between us I think I am going to keep my eyes open for the others though.) The beret was the cherry on top for this look!

I have never tried to style a beret before and to be honest, I felt a little silly at first when I put it on. But my goodness! It really completes the look!

Baiser du chef! (Chef's kiss in french!)

I hope so! I cannot wait to wear it out!

Pops of Neon! Plus a Little DIY!

Hey everyone! Happy Friday!

Today I have a fun fit for you! I LOVE the look so much!

I went to an event at Roam and Dwell -a boutique in Uptown Charlotte- and picked up a few pieces there, one of them being this cute graphic t-shirt, with neon, fur details! I was in love with it from the moment I saw it. Friends, I have been learning in hard to this side of my style aesthetic!

I think I have briefly mentioned this before, but my style aesthetic has been all about color and playing with different silhouettes, textures, patterns, etc. Then for a while, I kind of got really self-conscious about my preferences. I am not really sure why or what caused it, but I felt like I pulled back a lot. Then for a brief minuet, I kind of played around with the minimalistic styling (for those who aren't familiar, that is a simple styling technique with majority of neutral colors. It is very neat and clean cut, which I do like about it.) But try as I might, that just is not me.

Then I came across a few IG content creators, @byaimeekelly in particular, and her styling is right up my ally! I felt so seen and felt like I had permission -for lack of a better word- to really go for it!

I have also been hella inspired to play around with styling lately! Its been so nice!
Picture
Picture
This look was one of my first ideas of ways to style this cute tee! I love the rock-star vibe it gives! And the added pops of neon with the shoes and bag, really add so much more fun to this look!

Arguably though, one of my favorite parts of this look is this denim jacket that I spruced up! This was also an DIY inspo from @byaimeekelly! She decorated one of her leather coats and I think she sewed her patches on. Well, I'm no seamstress so iron on patches was what I went with. But it is amazing how much life was brought back into the jacket, just by adding some patches! It also satisfied my desires for instant results lol. (That is why I do not embark on a lot of DIY projects, I am not patient enough!)

AND this is during a period of time where I was experiencing some heavy anxiety, so ironing on these patches was pretty calming! I would turn on a podcast or vlog that I enjoy and listen to it in the background, while I ironed on the patches!

I think this is definitely going to be a look I wear at fashion week coming up! I'm not sure but I am very much considering it!

What do you guys think?

Thank you for reading! And have a great weekend ahead!

Fall Fever: Jorts and Bold Accents....

9/1/2024

Hello everyone!

It feels so good to be back to my regular schedule!

I have missed it terribly the last two weeks! Although my styling project was fun, I am very happy to be back to my regular posting. For those who don't know, on IG I embarked on a personal project to build summer outfits every day for the last two weeks of August. I filmed building these outfits and posted them to IG. I just wanted to do something different and push myself out of my comfort zone a bit. It seemed to be received pretty well!

I enjoyed it myself. I would definitely to it again. However, it was not without its' challenges. For one thing, it is time consuming to film videos. A 10 second video can take like 45 mins to film (okay maybe that is a TINY bit of an exaggeration, but it does take a fair amount of time! More than you'd think!) Combined with a full-time job, I really had to really be mindful with managing my time -which is a good lesson in itself!
Picture
Picture
Another thing that became a bit of a frustration during the summer outfit project was that I was not able to shoot looks, which I have found I really enjoy! I know that sounds silly, of course I enjoy it! But it is not just the taking pictures, it is creating the content, the sorting through it later, it is the editing pictures, editing videos. All of that I love! And I did not have nearly as much time to do all that.

I had to write down A LOT of outfit ideas I had over the course of the last two weeks. Today's look is one of them! And first of all, I want to say that I was heavily inspired by the creator, @byaimeekelly, on IG for this post. Actually, I have been very inspired by her a lot lately! But she definitely influenced this look. The flower specifically! I saw her wear a similar, large flower accent piece and I thought it was cute, but I couldn't imagine how I could make it work for myself. Then I came accross this lovely, large, blue flower pin on Amazon and didn't hesitate to add to bag.

I did have this idea in mind. I had no idea how it would actually turn out, but I was determined to try it!

At first, I was a little weary of it. Does it look dumb? Can I really pull it off? Is it too big?

Then I continued to build the look. First the yellow slingbacks, they made for a nice pop of color. Then the chain belt, for a little extra character. Then I left the shirt partially unbuttoned to create a more carefree, easy-going kind of look.  I got some second opinions from my sis and mom, both of whom commented on the size of the flower, BUT they both liked it! At the end of the day though, I took the chance. I liked how everything came together. I liked the added fun of the flower. I liked that it gave me a new way to make my clothing and styling more interesting.

Really, at the end of the day, how you feel in your clothes and outfits is really what matters most!

I hope you enjoyed this styling, and I will link the large flower pin down below!

Thank you for reading and have a great week ahead!
